Extra Row Brings in The Goods

For the fifth year in a row Tucker Andrews of The Farm Upstream has grown an extra row of squash on behalf of Transition Town Jericho. This year was another great harvest by volunteers from Transition Town Jericho and the Jericho-Underhill Food Hub. Here’s what was harvested and distributed for 2025.

First up were the 366-butternut squash harvested. Then 167 Delicata squash and 55 misc. types of squash were gleaned, totaling over 1,100 pounds of squash. These were brought to the following Food Pantries:

Aunt Dots in Essex - 50 squash

Heavenly Food Shelf in Essex Junction - 150 squash

Essex, Jericho, Underhill Ecumenical Food Shelf, in Jericho - 160 squash

The Family Room, Old North End of Burlington - 198 squash

I am always impressed with the people of Jericho, as we were able to get a team of 10 people together to get the squash picked before one of the many frosts hit.  It took me less than 24 hours to get the team together from the email lists of Transition Town Jericho, The Jericho-Underhill Food Hub and FPF listing.  With that many people in the field, we were able to be done in less than an hour.

The Extra Row Project has become something that the food shelves look forward to each year.  Over the five years of this project I estimate we provided about 10,000 pounds of food to people in need in Jericho, Underhill, Essex, Williston, Essex Junction, Colchester and Burlington.

Thank you all!

Dave
