About the event
Back in May, a group gathered at Chamberlin's farm on a very damp morning to plant a long row of potatoes. (https://www.jufoodhub.org/post/dodging-raindrops-planting-spuds )
This was the start of the second annual Potato Patch Project. Throughout the summer, the group rotated through tending the crop—hilling, weeding, and the sometime unsavory task of potato bug eradication (shout out to Sandy Wilmot who guessed the day the first a bug was found: June 9th!)
The crop has thrived, and now the time has come to harvest the spuds.
The potatoes will be shared with neighbors through local food shelves, food kitchens, mutual aid groups and at the community food sharing sheds in Underhill and Jericho.
Please stop by on Saturday, September 20 at 10am, Chamberlin's Farm, 100 River Rd in Underhill to lend a hand and find out how much yield the harvest brings.
All are welcome and appreciated for helping, even if just to cheer the group on.
A barbeque lunch will be provided!
This is just one of the many projects the Jericho Underhill Food Hub is helping to organize in order to promote, improve and support local food production.
Thank you to all who have helped cultivate this project both literally and logistically.
Special thanks to John Koier and John Connell who have kept us organized and on task.
A huge amount of appreciation to the Chamberlin's for sharing precious soil, field space and support!
