About the event

Board Organizing. (This will be done when all members are present)

Elect officers for the board (President, Vice President, Treasurer, & Secretary)

Identify 1-year and 2-year terms for board members.

Discuss options and opportunities for the following priorities and identify a point person for each (5-10 minutes per topic).

  1. Coordinate fundraising. Coordinate fundraising to get the best use of local business contributions and grant opportunities.

  2. Promotion and education. Coordinate in-person PR events, and digital presence for promotion and education on local foods: “Guide to local foods, farms and agricultural products”; benefits of buying local foods; health benefits of local foods; food safety; and workshops for home gardeners.

  3. Commercial kitchen. Identify or establish a commercial kitchen that could be used for processing raw materials, manufacturing of value-added foods and for workshops.

  4. Farm assistance. Coordinate with local farms by organizing “volunteer days” to quickly plant and/or harvest local crops when threatened by unusual weather events.

  5. Subsidizing food prices. Fundraising for Farm Shares and working with existing programs and opportunities that support subsidizing prices so that Jericho and Underhill consumers can get local products at a competitive price.

  6. Liaison with state food-related resources. Investigate opportunities and connections for our food hub within the State of Vermont Farm to Plate 2030 Roadmap and other food-related resources; also pursue collaboration with other food hubs in our region.

  7. Physical location. Research possibilities for a central location in Jericho/Underhill for food distribution and retail sales.

  8. Internal digital operations. Coordinate new non-profit google workspace setup and operations, including record keeping.

  9. Food Security. Liaison with local food shelves, mutual aid groups, food sheds, food growing pods, and gleaning options (how to process and distribute the food); pursue information about home gardeners and try to understand how much food is grown by gardeners on their property.
